Welcome Message

We are pleased to announce that the RIKEN BDR Symposium 2025, "Towards Redesigning Life Cycles," will be held from March 3 to 5, 2025, at the RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research, in Kobe, Japan.

One of the major aims of the life sciences is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the processes unfolding across the entire life cycle of an organism, from fertilization and development to maturation and aging, and to translate that knowledge to mitigating diseases, extending healthy lifespans, and helping society lead healthy lives. Achieving a comprehensive understanding of this complex system requires integrating both reductionist and constructivist approaches, the latter referring to the concept of "understanding by creating." The upcoming symposium will bring together world-leading interdisciplinary researchers who are working with ideas and technologies aimed at redesigning the life cycle. It is intended to serve as a forum to facilitate collaboration and the exchange of innovative ideas at the crossroads of various disciplines.

Topics will include:
・Cutting-edge technologies for manipulating cells and tissues
・Redesigning biomolecular functions for drug discovery
・Advanced organoid technologies for redesigning organ functions
・Technologies targeting aging processes for extending healthspan
・Frontiers in neuroscience toward the regulation of social behaviors

We hope this symposium will be a great opportunity for participants to engage in cross-disciplinary interactions and discussions, which will in turn contribute to forging new avenues of life science studies. We encourage the submission of abstracts for the poster session to facilitate a lively and informative exchange of ideas. A small number of poster abstracts will be selected for poster flash talk and oral presentations. Poster awards will also be available.

Additionally, the 2025 RIKEN BDR-CuSTOM Joint Organoid Symposium “Integrated Organoid Science: Stem cells, Engineering, Medicine,” will also be held at the same venue immediately following the BDR Symposium from Wednesday, March 5 to Friday, March 7. We invite you to consider joining this event as well if you are interested.

We look forward to welcoming you to our Center in March 2025.
