Entry into Japan

As of January 16, 2023:
[From January 12, 2023]
Temporary measures are currently being applied to those who are entering Japan from China. All those who are entering Japan via a direct flight from China (including Macau, excluding Hong Kong) are required to obtain a certificate of Pre-departure Test.
Please check Current Japanese Border Measures for details.

As of September 30, 2022:
[From October 11, 2022]
In principle, all cross-border travelers from countries/regions where the B.1.1.529 Omicron variant becomes dominant, will be required to provide either a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate (3 doses) of vaccines on the Emergency Use List of World Health Organization (WHO) or a negative COVID-19 test result (conducted within 72 hours before leaving the country of departure). On-arrival test at the quarantine station, self-quarantine in places such as their own residence or accommodations are no longer required. Visa exemption arrangements will also be resumed.

To simplify Japan entry procedures, it is strongly encouraged to use Fast Track, using Visit Japan Web. If not, vaccination certificate or a negative COVID-19 test result and questionnaire must be submitted at the quarantine station.

Please make sure to check both the websites for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), for the latest updates regarding entry into Japan.

All participants requiring a visa to enter Japan should register to participate in the conference by Friday, October 21, 2022 (Japan time), as the visa application process is anticipated to take time. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding regarding this requirement.

As of September 7, 2022:
In principle, anyone who does not have a Japanese passport needs to apply for a visa to enter Japan. Either a vaccination certificate that indicate the use of vaccines which are approved in Japan or a negative COVID-19 test result (conducted within 72 hours before leaving the country of departure) is also required. Your quarantine depends on  the classification of the country or region of your stay before arriving in Japan, and your vaccination status.
